Clinical Practice

Dr Kernohan is a Clinical Psychologist with over 18 years of post-qualification experience working within NHS services. She offers psychological assessments and therapy for both children and young people, as well as adults experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

Dr Kernohan has extensive experience supporting people of all ages and has worked with a wide range of psychological, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. These include low mood and depression, anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OCD, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, adjustment to physical and chronic medical conditions, and bereavement.

Dr Kernohan has worked for many years in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in both hospital and community settings. She also has experience of supporting people who have chronic or terminal medical conditions.

Dr Kernohan provides evidence-based psychological therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy. Additionally, she has further trained in Trauma focussed CBT and parenting interventions. Dr Kernohan offers an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring each intervention to the unique needs of the individual, drawing on evidence-based therapies to provide effective and meaningful support.

Dr Kernohan’s approach is warm, compassionate, and person-centred. Central to this is building a strong therapeutic relationship, one that fosters safety, trust, and collaboration.
Dr Kernohan will help to create a space where individuals feel heard and understood, and through collaboration develop a shared understanding of their difficulties and goals. Whether working with children, young people, or adults, her focus is always on promoting psychological well-being and resilience.
