Clinical Practice

Having worked for many years in NHS Mental Health Services and been the clinical lead in the Primary Care Adult Mental Health team, I have a wealth of expertise in counselling clients for a wide range of mental health problems. I have led groups treating anxiety, anger, depression, self-esteem, and trauma. I have worked as a liaison psychologist at the Burns and Heart transplant units at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and therefore have experience of supporting individuals with chronic health conditions

I was course director and tutor on the first university recognised course in clinical hypnosis in Scotland at Glasgow Caledonian University. This course was for doctors, dentists, and professions allied to medicine.

As one of the more experienced Counselling Psychologists in the Scotland, I have had the pleasure in supporting and providing clinical supervision to many trainee counselling psychologists, psychology assistants, clinical associates and mental health practitioners. I have taught staff from non-psychology backgrounds to delivery low-level psychological interventions as part if their clinical practice.

I have a special interest in abuse, self esteem, trauma and men’s mental health problems.

Therapeutic Approach

I see my clients as the best expert of themselves and myself as a ‘guide’, working in a collaborative way to help them work through their issues. I use evidence based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Solution Focussed Therapy (SFT), Mindfulness, and Clinical Hypnosis. I may also use components from Compassion Focussed Therapy.
